Carriage error or Error Code 5100

Condition: An error occurred in the carriage encoder signal.
Problems and Solutions:

• Smearing or scratches on the carriage slit film
  - clean the timing slit film.
• Foreign material or paper debris that obstructs the carriage movement;
   - remove foreign material.
• Ink tank conditions;
   - re-seat the ink tanks.
• If other solution fail, replace one off the following
  - Timing slit disk film
  - Carriage unit
  - Logic board
  - Carriage motor

Line Feed error or Error Code 6000
Condition: An error occurred in the LF encoder signal.
Problems and Solutions:

• Smearing or scratches on the LF / EJ slit film
  - clean the LF / EJ slit film.
• Foreign material or paper debris in the LF drive;
  - remove foreign material.
• If other solution fail, replace one off the following
  - LF / EJ slit film
  - LF / EJ timing sensor unit
  - Paper feed roller unit
  - Logic board
  - Paper feed motor

Purge cam sensor error or Error Code 5C00
Condition: An error occurred in the purge unit.
Problems and Solutions:

• Foreign material or paper debris around the purge drive system unit;
  - remove foreign material.
• If other solution fail, replace one off the following
  - Purge drive system unit
  - Logic board

ASF sensor error or Error Code 5700
Condition: An error occurred in the ASF cam sensor.
Problems and Solutions:

• Replace one of the following:
  - ASF unit
  - PE sensor board unit
  - Logic board

Internal temperature error or Error Code 5400
Condition: The internal temperature is not normal.
Problems and Solutions:

• Replace one of the following:
  - Carriage unit
  - Logic board
  - Print head

Ink absorber is full or Error Code 5B00, 5B01
Condition: The ink absorber is supposed to be full. Message on the Monitor screen or printer LCD: Ink absorber full. Service required.
Problems and Solutions:

• Ink absorber is full or waste pad inside the printer is almost full
  - Replace printers Ink absorber pad and reset the ink absorber counter value in the EEPROM.

Print head temperature rise error or Error Code 5200
Condition: The print head temperature exceeded the specified value.
Problems and Solutions:

• Turn off the printer and then turn on if error still persist replace Ink cartridge or print head

EEPROM error or Error Code 6800, 6801
Condition: A problem occurred in reading from or writing to the EEPROM.
Problems and Solutions:

• Replace logic board

VH monitor error or Error Code B200
Condition: The print head voltage is abnormal.
Problems and Solutions:

• Replace Print head and logic board (Replace them at the same time.)
• Replace Power supply unit 
• Check and Clean Head contact pin condition of the carriage unit
• Check Cable connection especially the carriage FFC

Carriage lift mechanism error or Error Code 5110
Condition: The carriage did not move up or down properly.
Problems and Solutions:

• Foreign material or paper debris that obstructs the carriage movement
  - remove foreign material.
• Consider replacing:
  - Switch system unit
  - Carriage unit

APP position error or Error Code 6A80
Condition: An error occurred in the APP motor.
Problems and Solutions:

• Check for foreign material or paper debris around the purge drive system unit
  - remove foreign material.
• Check for foreign material or paper debris around the ASF unit
  - remove foreign material.
• If other solution fail, replace one off the following part
  - Purge drive system unit
  - Logic board

APP sensor error or Error Code 6A90
Condition: An error occurred during paper feeding or purging.
Problems and Solutions:

• check for foreign material or paper debris around the purge drive system unit;
  - remove foreign material.
• check for foreign material or paper debris around the ASF unit;
  - remove foreign material.
• If other solution fail, replace one off the following part
  - Purge drive system unit
  - Logic board

Paper feed cam sensor error or Error Code 6B10
Condition: An error occurred in the paper feed cam sensor during paper feeding from the cassette, or the paper absorbing a large amount of ink jammed in the PF rear guide.
Problems and Solutions:

• Jammed paper in the PF rear guide (when a large amount of ink was absorbed in the paper);
  - remove the jammed paper and foreign material.
• check for foreign material or paper debris in the cassette or in the PF rear guide;
  - remove foreign material.
• If other solution fail, replace one off the following part
  - PF pick-up unit
  - Logic board

USB Host VBUS overcurrent or Error Code 9000
Condition: The USB Host VBUS is overloaded.
Problems and Solutions:

• Replace Logic board

Pump roller sensor error or Error Code 5C20
Condition: The pump roller position cannot be detected.
Problems and Solutions:

• Replace Purge drive system unit

Ink tank position sensor error or Error Code 6502
Condition: None of the ink tank position is detected.
Problems and Solutions:

• check Ink tank position
• Re-seat or replacement of ink tanks
• Replace parts
  - Spur unit
  - Logic board

Flatbed motor error or Error Code 5012
Condition: An error occurred in the scanner flatbed motor.
Problems and Solutions:

• replace Scanner unit

Valve cam sensor error or Error Code 6C10
Condition: The valve cam sensor was faulty at power-on or when purging was attempted.
Problems and Solutions:

• check for foreign material or paper debris around the purge drive system unit;

What is BetterSurf and How to remove it

What is bettersurf?

Better is a malicious adware application installed on internet browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) as extension or browser helper object. It is usually comes as a complimentary to a free application software. Some software may provide the options to exclude it during installation process but others are directly forced to installed without warning. The common installation directory located at the C:Program FilesBetter-Surf or C:Program FilesBetterSurf where it folders for each of the browser with acronym (ch = google chrome, ff = firefox, ie = internet explorer). The primary file responsible for executing the ads is the Bettersurf.dll

The Bettersurf behavior

When user visiting any website the ads such as banners, text-link ads, and pops up automatically executed on the site. It adds the load of the browser and making it slower as a result more CPU usage incurred. This can be viewed on the Windows System Performance Monitor whenever bettersurf is running on the website you are visiting. In Google Chrome it installed one extension whereas Firefox and Internet Explorer at least two or three of them.

One of the popup ads shows as below with Affilliate ID 195299 which clearly intended to promote affiliate programs.

BetterSurf Detection:

• On windows startup any antivirus (i.e. Avira) programs will detect the Bettersurf extension running on Mozilla firefox.
• Windows Defender will detect it running on Internet Explorer
• High usage of CPU when visiting websites and it slows down the browser when Bettersurf is running on the foreground.

How to remove BetterSurf from each browsers:

1. Google Chrome: Click Customize and Control icon>>Tools>>Extensions>>search Better Surf Plus 1.1 and click on the recycle bin icon to uninstall
2. Mozilla Firefox: Click on Tools>>Add-ons and Uninstall the Better Surf
3. Internet Explorer: In Windows 7 click Start>>Control Panel>>Programs (Uninstall Programs)>>Better Surf then right click mouse and uninstall.

After uninstalled for each of the browsers the extensions could still be there especially Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. To remove it completely you will need to clean up the registry manually by doing the following

1. In Windows 7 – Click Start and Type “regedit” and press ENTER on the keyboard. The registry edit screen will popup
2. Click on the Edit tab and Find or press CTRL + F on the keyboard. Search “Bettersurf” keyword and delete each of the registry. Once deleted keep searching by pressing F3 on the keyboard and delete until it is no longer be found.
3. By deleting the registry the extension should be completely eliminated from Internet Explorer and Firefox

Resetter Epson L100 and How Uses:

• Turn on Epson L100 and make sure that Espon L100 already connect to the computer with driver installed.
• Then run Resetter Epson L100, by double clicking the file "AdjProg cracked.exe"
• Click "accept">> "Particular Adjustment Mode">> Select "Waste ink pad counter reset">> click "Check">> uncheck "play pad counters, FL Boxes counter, tube Ink Counter", then click the "initialization"> > "Finish".

• The next step,turn off Epson L100 , then disconnect the power.
• The last step, reattach the power cord and turn on the printer, wait a while until Epson L100 ready.

Epson L100 is ready for use again.

Observations: If It Sounds Like Print and Looks Like Print, Is It Printing?

[February 24, 2011] Since my November 2010 Observations column on ACTPrinter (“All That Glitters...”) and January 2011 Observations column on paper.li (“Paper as a Metaphor”), I have been tempted to fall back on the old saw, “If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...” and conclude that these products confirm the importance of printing in our new world, but this is not the case! In fact, these two solutions with print or paper in their names do not actually mean paper or printing in any material sense at all. In the same vein, I offer the conclusion of my three-part series with this month’s feature attraction, Instapaper, the very popular viewing app for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (Apple iOS) and other platforms, including Web browsers and Amazon Kindles.


At first glance, this popular app (featured in much press coverage, including The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times) with the prominent inclusion of the word “paper” in its name, makes a long-time printer industry member like me take quick notice. But while the $5 version (a free one is also available), named by the Times’ Damon Darlin as “One of the best values in the Apple App Store” in December 2010 and by fellow Times writer Bob Tedeschi as one of “Ten Apps That Make Magic on Your iPad,” also in December, meets user needs in virtually the same fashion as physically printing and then reading the content, Instapaper precludes the trip to the printer and the corresponding depletion of paper and toner or ink.

The description of Instapaper available from the app’s listing on the Apple iTunes App Store has a familiar ring to it: “Great for long articles and blog posts that you find during the day and would like to read, but don’t have the time when you find them. Save with Instapaper, then read later, when you’re commuting, in a meeting, or waiting in line.” This description could have just as easily been ascribed to HP’s original Web Printsmart or Canon’s WebRecord (and was, just not in so many words), back in the days when information availability was exploding via the Web and e-mail, and printer industry types were assured that content must be printed on paper before being consumed, at least in a large number of cases. Apparently, in the decade or more since those first Web-printing attempts (see “Printing from the Web – Are we reaching the end point?”), the physical act of printing has more often been replaced by the virtual equivalent.

The Instapaper App Store description of the application’s core features also states, “Saves most webpages as text only, stripping away the full-sized layout to optimize for the iPhone and iPad screens; distraction-free reading environment gets out of your way so you can focus on the content; everything you download is then available off-line so you can read whatever you want even on airplanes or on Wi-Fi only devices away from Internet connections.” Substitute “letter-sized and A4 paper” for “iPhone and iPad screens” in that feature list and you would have a description of the Web-tuned printing apps of recent history.

So just as the electronic viewing of photos has become more customary, via social media platforms like Facebook, photo sites like Flickr, and even digital photo frames, electronic document viewing continues its march toward popularity and pervasiveness. These “substitutes,” as economists label them, are replacing printed photos and documents, leaving our industry with the hope that net growth in prints coming from the total number of photos taken and documents distributed increases faster than the decline in printed content.

Plays Well with Others

With respect to inter-application versatility (i.e. send-to-Instapaper capability), the App Store description notes that “sending to Instapaper is supported by over 135 other iPhone and iPad apps! You can even send long emails to Instapaper.” So within the iOS environment, many apps “get along” and can provide source content to the Instapaper viewer. This behavior is different than that of those previously-mentioned browser-based print apps and reflects the app-driven (as opposed to browser-driven) world of today’s mobile platforms. (As a note, Instapaper, according to Darlin’s Times article, is holding back from doing Android versions to avoid further complexity for the one-person company.)

Instapaper’s one person is the charismatic Marco Arment, a developer of social media platform Tumblr and an influential force in the app universe. When initially contacted, Arment was responsive but concerned on the fit of Instapaper in an article for a printer-industry publication. Despite his busy schedule (while we were researching this piece, Arment was an outspoken industry voice on the newly-announced enforcement of Apple’s in-app purchase (IAP) program), Arment was friendly enough but offered, “I’d be happy to do a brief interview, but are you sure Instapaper is relevant to the article? It doesn’t really have anything to do with physical paper or printing.”

But, a “print” option displayed to logged-in users on Instapaper’s Web site (and described pre-login, see screenshots below) offers a glimmer of hope.

While couched with cautions, this capability became the subject our first-ever Twitter interview (see below) when we tweeted to Arment, “Will the print function on Instapaper web site evolve beyond ‘very beta?’ ” Arment tweeted back almost immediately, “Probably not. Hardly anyone ever uses it. But I love printing off a few pages before air travel for taxi, takeoff, and landing.”

This twitter exchange just goes to show that like the “everything will be printed” assumptions of a more than a decade ago, today’s “nothing will be printed” assertions will not come to pass—the world does not work like that. Finding the right time, place, and applications for each medium is the important issue that will let creative forces prevail in our industry and others.
